About us and the team behind PermaPave Solutions
My name is Daniel Phillips, my journey started at the age of 12 when I began helping my father with his property lettings company. I would work evenings and weekends, primarily on student accommodation properties in Sheffield which he owned.
In addition to this my father also ran a Construction Company and an Architectural Design Company. He was also the Principal Building Inspector throughout Sheffield. I suppose you could say that growing up around this environment I was destined to work within the construction industry.
This experience enabled me to grow my knowledge and passion for the building industry further.
Upon leaving school I completed an Apprenticeship in Bricklaying. While carrying out this course I also attended night school studying Foundation Building and Surveying. Once I had completed the courses I immediately started working for my father’s Construction Company.
After spending several years immersed in the construction industry and having been involved in it from a young age, I felt a desire to explore the world beyond. This led me to join the 1st Battalion Parachute Regiment. Serving as a ‘Paratrooper’ in the airborne infantry. I was in the Paras for five years which was an absolute privilege and honour. During my time in the military, I acquired invaluable skills and disciplines that have left a lasting impact on me; however, my passion for the construction industry remained steadfast.
In the year 2000, I made the difficult decision to leave the Parachute Regiment as my wife and I were expecting our first child. We relocated to Spain, where my family had already settled and started an Estate Agency and Building Company.
I was fortunate to be able to join my father’s Construction Company. This not only allowed me to combine my love of construction but also the opportunity to be closer to my loved ones whilst creating a new chapter in my life.
After many years, I returned to the UK and made another significant career change by joining the Police at the Derbyshire Constabulary where I dedicated myself to serving as a Police Officer for over 10 years.
However, my passion for construction remained steadfast, and I continued to involve myself in building projects during my free time.
Over time, the demand for my construction services grew and I took the leap and established my own UK Construction Company, (Daniel Phillips Construction), which allowed me to bring together the wealth of experience that I had accumulated over the years. Each day, I embraced the challenges and rewards that came with managing my own construction company. The company expanded rapidly mainly due to my determination to provide a quality finish at an affordable price. Despite the challenges posed by Brexit, my ultimate goal was always to return to Spain and settle down permanently with my wife, Kerry.
Since moving back to Spain in 2021, my brother Ryan and I have operated this business jointly. Ryan plays a vital role in organising projects and overseeing our team of twenty skilled tradesmen on a day-to-day basis whilst I now carry out more of an administrative role keeping the company going forward in the right direction. Our collective joint aim is simple yet unwavering – deliver an exceptional level of service from start to finish.
The move back to Spain not only brought me back closer to my father who has now resided in Spain for over twenty-five years, but it also presented an opportunity to establish a new company, PermaPave Solutions, a fully legal company specialising in the application of resin-bound surfacing for driveways, terraces, patios, and pool surrounds.
The journey of starting up PermaPave Solutions hasn’t been without its challenges. Dealing with Spanish bureaucracy has proved to be a daunting task at times. However, with determination and perseverance, we ultimately succeeded. Today, PermaPave Solutions is entirely managed by me, I have assembled a small team of qualified professionals who work alongside me to deliver a quality finish.
Resin-bound is relatively new to Spain, unlike the rest of Europe and the UK, but it will obviously flourish due to its hard-wearing, durable finish, speed of application, and a vast range of colours on offer.
This new opportunity combines my continued administrative responsibilities with my UK company and provides hands-on involvement in the practical aspects of working on-site.
This journey of establishing a new life in Spain and starting PermaPave Solutions have been both challenging and inspiring. I am extremely excited about the future of PermaPave Solutions and all that lies ahead.
