Resin-bound surfacing is a durable and attractive solution that requires minimal maintenance. Following the aftercare guidance below will help ensure the surface cures correctly and continues to perform and look its best for years to come.

Immediate Aftercare

During the initial curing period, extra care must be taken.

  • No foot traffic for at least 24 hours
  • No vehicular traffic for a minimum of 72 hours
  • Avoid placing furniture, plant pots, or other items on the surface
  • Prevent contamination from dirt, debris, chemicals, or spillages
  • Keep pets away from the area

The polyurethanes used in resin-bound surfacing are chemically resistant once cured; however, exposure to chemicals, spillages, or excessive moisture during the curing stage should be avoided.

Use of Resin-Bound Surfaces

Resin-bound surfaces are suitable for:

  • Pedestrian use
  • Domestic driveways
  • Patios, terraces, and pathways
  • Light vehicular traffic where designed for this purpose

They are not intended for heavy commercial vehicles or machinery, unless specifically installed for such use.
Care should always be taken when using or maintaining the surface to prevent unnecessary damage.

Misuse and Damage Prevention

Care must be taken when handling hard or heavy objects on the surface. Dragging or dropping items may cause damage.
Items that may cause surface damage include:

  • Gardening equipment
  • Motorbike stands
  • Vehicle jacks
  • Heavy plant pots
  • Furniture with narrow or metal legs

Resin-bound surfaces can also be affected by point loading, where pressure is concentrated in a small area. This may occur if debris such as gravel becomes trapped in tyre treads.
When carrying out maintenance or vehicle work:

  • Always use wooden boards or load-spreading supports
  • Avoid placing metal or narrow supports directly onto the surface

Cleaning and Maintenance

Routine maintenance is simple and effective.

General Cleaning

  • Sweep regularly to remove dirt, leaves, and debris
  • Rinse with clean water as required

Organic debris such as leaves, soil, or plant matter left for extended periods may cause staining if not removed.


Pressure Washing
For stubborn marks or build-up:

  • A pressure washer may be used
  • Maximum pressure: 150 bar
  • Use a fan-type nozzle
  • Keep the lance at least 200mm from the surface
  • Use cold water only

Avoid excessive or prolonged pressure washing in one area.

Spillages and Chemical Exposure

Although resin-bound surfacing is resistant to many chemicals once cured, spillages should be avoided wherever possible.

If oil, fuel, solvents, or other chemicals are spilt:

  • Rinse the affected area immediately with plenty of clean water
  • Prompt dilution and removal will help prevent staining or damage

  • Avoid prolonged contact with sharp or heavy objects
